I think the Ethnocultural Department is such an exciting place. We are new and welcoming, and so there is so much space for ideas and shaping the direction we head towards in the future.

As Officer, I have really gotten to working on building a community that feels empowered and supported in their endeavours and personal projects. That is the most important part of my job I think - to give people the tools to make their ideas into a reality, especially in the realm of shifting discourse around race and intersecting issues at the university.

I hope that throughout the next couple of weeks, particularly with Ethnocultural Week coming up in Week 10 we can really start being visible to the wider ANU community as an important part of student advocacy, learning, and solidarity."

Welcome to the first of our photo series, where over the next couple of weeks we will be sharing with discussing with ethnoculturally-identifying students at the ANU about their experiences with the Ethnocultural Department and race more generally. If you would like to be involved, please message us. We look forward to hearing from you, and sharing stories with you!
