Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional owners of this land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present, and emerging. We acknowledge that this land was stolen and sovereignty was never ceded. We welcome all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to our Collective and commit to standing with our First Nations people.

Officer Report

  1. SRC

    • Voted on two Palestinian motions - both passed:

      1. ANUSA supporting School Strike

      2. ANUSA standing in Solidarity with Palestine

  2. Student Strike for Palestine

    • Scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday at 12 PM.

    • Limited engagement from residential halls for walkovers.

  3. Poster/Sign Making for Student Strike for Palestine

    • Scheduled for today at 6 PM.

  4. Palestine DJ Fundraiser @ Sideway

    • Contacting past organizers for support, aiming for Term 2.

  5. Palestine Weekly Walkover

    • Successful; planning to continue weekly.

  6. BIPOC Talks

    • Postponed due to officer illness.

    • Rescheduled for next Tuesday, March 5th, with the topic 'Being BIPOC'.

  7. Safe Space

    • 91 people have requested access, 83 granted access (waiting on ANU Security for the rest).

    • Pending maintenance tasks:

      1. Panel heaters - waiting on ANU.

      2. Soap dispensers.

    • Completed maintenance tasks:

      1. Cleaning schedule in place (6 AM-7 AM Mon-Fri).

      2. Permanent BIPOC Base lettering above the door.

    • Signage needs to be added.

    • More posters needed; members encouraged to contribute art.

    • Chia responsible for keeping food items in stock, considering bulk buying from Costco, focus on non-perishables.

    • BKSS offered to include grocery order in their order and invoice the department.

    • Considering stocking pads and condoms; feedback form to find out what people want.

  8. Racism & Bigotry Panel

    • Scheduled for Tuesday, March 5th at 6:30 PM at Burgmann College.

  9. Indigenous Department

    • Trying to organize a panel.

Secretary Report

  1. Constitution

    • Aiming to finalize amendments this weekend, focusing on executive positions for elections.

  2. Safe Space Library

    • Form nearly complete, pending review by Selena.

Treasurer Report

  1. O-Week

    • All volunteers paid.

    • Working on financing the mural.

    • Waiting to hear from Will regarding ANUSA pool fund.

    • If additional money is not received, may need to rethink budget allocation for BIPOC Base stock.

Social Officer Report

  1. Sideway

    • Emalisa in contact with venue.

    • Future events to consider accessibility, as Sideway is not wheelchair friendly.

Advocacy Officer Report

  1. BIPOC Documentary 2023

    • Raida helping complete the documentary.

    • Ensuring smooth start due to large footage size.

    • Conducting interviews at the collective meeting for the documentary intro.

  2. BIPOC Talks

    • Rescheduled for next Tuesday, March 5th at 5:30 PM.

    • Expecting larger turnout, keeping in mind the trend from O-Week.

  3. Advocacy Committee

    • Drafted email for committee, pending review by Selena.

    • Plan to create a Facebook group and hold the first meeting.

  4. Palestinian Advocacy

    • Planning an educational panel in Week 7, sorting out admin tasks like location, time, date, and booking.
