Challenging Chats: Women of Colour & Body Positivity

The ANU Women's Department and the ANU Ethnocultural Department presents Challenging Chats: Women of Colour & The Body Positivity Movement.

This event is a roundtable discussion and is autonomous to women and non-binary identifying people of colour. We will address questions like:

How are the beauty standards that women of colour face (e.g. colourism, body-hair, desirable facial and body features) perceived and discussed in the body positivity movement as whole?
Does the body positivity movement have an issue with racism?
What can the body positivity movement do for women of colour, and how can we make it more diverse?

This event will be facilitated by Queenie Ung-Lam and Nupur Apte.

Possible trigger/content warnings: in-depth discussions of bodies, racism.

Because this is an open discussion other topics may come up. The Safe Space Policy will be explained to participants before discussion begins. Participants will be responsible for providing warnings. You are welcome to leave and/or return at any point during the event, and there will be a tea break to facilitate transitioning out of the room if you wish.

At ANUSA we strive to make our events as accessible as possible. The Rapunzel Room is in the Crisp building which is accessible by ramp. If you have any accessibility requirements, please don’t hesitate to email the ANUSA Women’s Officer at sa.womens@anu.edu.au or call the ANUSA office at 02 6125 2444.
