Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, and pays respect to their Elders past, present, and emerging.

Key Updates and Action Items:

1. Racism Report 2023 and 2024:

  • The Vice-Chancellor (VC) responded regarding the Racism Report 2023. A meeting is being organized with the Executive Assistants.

  • The 2024 Racism Report is unlikely to be concluded this year due to the ongoing process for ethics approval.

2. BIPOC Ball Preparations:

  • The Ball is scheduled for next Friday, and all final tickets have been sold, generating $4,300. Equipment for DJ decks, flowers, and photography is being arranged.

  • Discussions are ongoing with the Indigenous Department to finalize pizza platters for the event.

3. Constitutional Amendments and Website Policies:

  • Amendments to include the Web Designer role in the constitution are still being discussed. The team is reviewing the constitution and refining website policies, especially concerning the storage of user data.

4. BASC Mixer Postponed:

  • The BASC Mixer has been postponed to Week 8 due to venue issues. The team is exploring alternative locations on and off campus, including KinLoch, Blue Eyes, and MilkyLane.

5. Social Events and Zine Launch:

  • The Zine launch is confirmed for Week 4, with a mood board and zine-making night planned for Weeks 4 or 5.

  • The Paint and Sip event was successful, and future event ideas include more art-related gatherings.

6. Website Updates and Advocacy Efforts:

  • The website’s functionality is being enhanced with clickable headings for easier navigation of governance and legal pages. Efforts are also being made to improve mobile performance.

  • The team is developing an advocacy page featuring educational panel videos, links to the Racism Report, and infographics.

7. Financials:

  • Reimbursements have been completed, and the finance page on the website is nearing completion.

8. Publicity:

  • Infographic posts are planned after the Ball to maintain engagement. The team will also start promoting the West Papua educational panel and continue updating the community through social media posts.

Next Steps:

  • Finalize Ball preparations, including DJ decks, photography, and decorations.

  • Continue constitutional amendments and website policy updates.

  • Confirm a new venue for the BASC Mixer and ensure timely promotion for the event.

  • Prepare for the West Papua panel and post-event updates.
