Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, and pays respect to their Elders past, present, and emerging.

BIPOC Officer Report

  1. Email response from Joan 

    • Follow up from the meeting we had

    • Was also sent to ANU Security, Mark and Lisa from RRU

    • Outlined our action items: written apology, written timeline of murals removal, future direction of a permanent mural, want for ANU security to have diversity training 

    • Only Joan responded- apologised for not contacting us directly, and said she would like to work alongside us moving forward

  2. Meeting with dep officers 

    • Received positive responses from everyone

    • Will discuss this at the next dept head meeting 

    • Will action a mass chalk mural 

    • Did not receive a response from enviro or queer dept

  3. Racism report 

    • Mass progress has been made

    • Was sent to the groupchat if you havent seen it already

    • We are in the data analysis section 

    • Concerns- the BIPOC dept been stated as being anti-semetic by very few respondees for our Palestinian advocacy. We will add a section that states we are against anti-semitism and positing that there is a difference between Zionism and Judaism.

  4. Meeting with college BIPOC reps

    • There has been BIPOC on BIPOC racism on campus- internalised racism 

    • Will have a testimony in racism report

    • Issue/ confusion with the reporting mechanisms

    • Many have spoken to heads of hall but this hasn’t been actioned

    • International and domestic student divide is very evident 

    • Implement a semester catch up with all the BIPOC reps

  5. Disability panel 

    • Racism in healthcare w ISD and disability
