BIPOC Officer Report

Great Bush Week; turnout was good, events ran smoothly

• SRC meeting tonight,

• Report submitted

• Finances table is missing because we don't have funding or a treasurer officer

• Will be away for personal reasons

• Department work will be done remotely

• Needs help running events from all exec members 

• Will go to the bank to sort out account holders 

  • Do it now or later once we have an official treasurer

• Racism report responses closing in 2 weeks

• Open exec positions will be posted tonight 

• Election planned for 19th August (week 4)

• Ball ticket sales need to increase to pay for Bar tab 

• New collective meeting graphic is needed with permanent link in bio

• Agreement with Woroni for printing for Report and Zine 

• Palestine  solidarity signage under anti-Palestinian advocacy from government directives and university 

• Infringements on a display in an autonomous space 

• Sets a disturbing precedent for what can and cannot be advocated for in autonomous spaces

• Selective stifling of political expression under the guise of plausibly undeniable

• Discrimination claim 

• Feedback on statement:

  • First comply with what the ANU is asking for to come to an agreement

  • If not, escalate to human rights commissions

• Feedback from exec on gendered violence and how it affects BIPOC

Advocacy Report

Racism report survey:

• We have 28 responses so far. Last year there were a little over 50 responses – but I would ideally like to do even more

  
  

• One of the main criticisms is this small sample size

  • Do fill it out in detail

• Just thinking – the 2023 racism report was really impactful because it was a documentary, and I think the examples of how our BIPOC identities are shaped/impacted by racism might be helpful to include if that makes sense bc that was the most impactful part for me in the AHRC report. Not sure. Just an idea.

• Future idea – bringing BIPOC zines to the racism report launch

• Actioning items for racism report survey even more – probably word of mouth most impactful – will let interhall BIPOC committee know

• Just realising that BIPOC dept is contentious re XIBO screens but I will get that done too

• I really liked the idea of the zines, but not sure how to distribute them outside of market day

• Maybe posting the ‘intro to BIPOC’ post though? To the Instagram? As a refresher for new people & like as a pinned post etc, but we can also add more slides on ‘What is the BIPOC dept, what do we do, how to get involved etc.?’

• Yes, I must poster sorry I haven’t, but if we have leftover A5 handouts I’ll take some and stick some up

• If anyone wants to make a reel promoting it – I'm not very good at that but yes

• IARC news on staff anti-racism

• I delivered a training yesterday yippee yay not a fix all but yes wanted to share that was happening

• BIPOC talks – ideas for advocacy and like when bc if we have time for the advocacy one – thoughts on running a BIPOC x another department talks sesh?? Like BIPOCxQueer, BIPOCxDSA, BIPOCxEnviro even
